The Mahoning Chapter of the American Red Cross developed the Heroes of the Mahoning Valley breakfast because it is an event that exemplifies the Red Cross dedication to humanity and desire to promote mutual understanding, friendship and cooperation.
Five years ago, the Heroes of the Mahoning Valley began and since has grown into one of the most important humanitarian events in the Valley. This event pays tribute to those who have extraordinary courage, compassion of character or humanity, and saved or improved the lives of others.
Clara Barton, founder of the American Red Cross said, "The door that nobody else will go in at, seems always to swing open widely for me." These words are the words of a hero and these words exemplify each and every Hero of the Mahoning Valley that we honor today. They travel down the road less traveled and by doing so, they are enriching others, improving our community and making the world a better place to live.
Today we honor our 2008 Heroes of the Mahoning Valley. Your dedication to community, charity and humanity is unprecedented. Thank you for: Becoming part of the team... becoming part of the family... becoming part of the American Red Cross.

Together, these fund-raisers has raised approximately $8,000!

In an effort to get us through these long cold dark winter months, I'm going to start including some Buffett news stories, the first of which appears below. I hope you enjoy!

12.14.07 - Parrotheads having a good time for a good cause.

From TheSouthern.com

Many clubs have guidelines, but having "a little bit of fruitcake left" and wanting to "give a little back" might be the most lenient set of rules for any Southern Illinois civic group.
"We are people that enjoy a laid-back and tropical sort of lifestyle," said Todd Moore of Harrisburg, chapter president. "And, of course, we enjoy the music of Jimmy Buffett. It's not really a fan club, per se, but I guess the term 'parrot head' was born at a Jimmy Buffett concert and it represents his whole persona and lifestyle. It started in Atlanta with the first club."
The Southern Illinois Parrot Head Club goes by the motto, Partying for a Purpose, and has adopted a very civic-minded middle ground between charity work and having a good time.

Be sure to join us all at the Boxcar Lounge this Saturday, 06.30.07 starting at 8pm. Bob will have Coronas and margaritas galore, and weinies from around the world!

The golf outing is coming together slowly but surely. We'd like to see EVERY YPHC member bring at least 1 sponsorship to the get together this Saturday. Forms and all the info are posted on the golf outing page.

05.16.07 - WE HAVE FOUND A HOME!

The Youngstown Parrot Head Club is very lucky to have found that "One Particular Harbor" right in the heart of Youngstown. Several of us walked into the Boxcar Lounge at the B&O Station - (click here for a map) to check it out and found the perfect haven - a well stocked bar with over 70 different types of beer, a beautiful deck and outdoor area overlooking Millcreek Park and the river, a ladies room so nice one could live in it and, best of all, bartender/manager, Bob Schott (a self-proclaimed Margarita "purist"), who has welcomed us with wide spread wings and a willingness to work with a bunch of crazies like us! PHins UP, Bob!!!
